Differentiation with Technology

 Differentiation with Technology

On day one, the laptops will be used for the warm up. The students will log onto their My Path and see a teacher assigned interactive practice game. This will walk them through multiplying fractions with whole numbers. It will take about 15 minutes. We will then discuss any "Aha's" they had or any "Opps" they have. "Aha's" are things that now make sense to then and "Opps" are things that they are still unsure about. We then begin the lesson. To ensure students are on task, I walk around and give praises or redirections as necessary. This promotes diverse cultural perspectives because all students will have a different "Aha" and "Opps" which can both be due to their cultural perspectives (Wilkerson).

On day two, students will use their laptops to post their new problem. They will think of real-world examples of multiplying a fraction by a whole number and they will create a math word problem with that real-world examples. Once they create a word problem, they will go to the class Jam Board and post their math word problem. Next, students will go through the Jam Board and solve other students word problems. Ensuring the Jam Board is used properly has been something my class has worked on all year. We have a class Respect Agreement and a Technology Respect Agreement that way we are using everything for its intended purpose. This promotes global awareness because they are having to take their math off the book and into the real-world (Borders, 2018).

On day three, students will use their laptops for a comprehension check. They will log into My Path and find a comprehension check over multiplying a fraction by a whole number. The website grades it right away so they can get instant feedback about how well they understand the topic. To ensure students are on task, I walk around and give praises or redirections as necessary. According to the article The Importance of Diversity & Multicultural Awareness in Education by Drexel University School of Education, this promotes cultural perspectives because the students have "freedom and flexibility," (The Importance of Multicultural Education) in their lessons.
